ACHA adds value to the current mechanisms for cooperation among African CSOs by furthering dialogue and engagement to address challenges specific to indigenous organisations.  Furthermore, it helps create an enabling environment for African CSOs by promoting and enhancing their strengths. Thus it aims to highlight their capacity to deliver assistance and services, be it nationally, regionally, or across the continent. This not only increases the resource capacity of African CSOs, but also raises their international standing in the long term.

ACHA provides tailor-made solutions to support the strengthening of African CSO operational and organisational capacity.  As such, ACHA enables these organisations to enhance their participation in the humanitarian community and increases the effectiveness of their services to vulnerable communities. It coordinates their actions for a more coherent voice, serves as a resource centre for the sharing and dissemination of relevant information, conducts research and development for their benefit, and addresses their institutional capacity needs.  In this way, ACHA contributes to the growing momentum of an African renaissance.

ACHA provides the following services to its members:

Advocacy and Representation
Presenting African perspectives, concerns and priorities, and fostering humanitarian partnership

Information and Knowledge Management
Enhancing capacities through shared learning and knowledge management

Research and Dissemination
Activating ideas and influencing quality

Assistance and Service
Building on the skills and resources of African CSOs

“Enhancing institutional capacity, mobilising commensurate resources and strengthening their autonomy are goals which African NGOs must strive for in order to enable them to play their role in addressing the myriad of challenges that face our continent especially in the humanitarian field.”
Dr. Salim A. Salim, African Union Special Envoy on the Darfur Conflict
